Bursa dec 2007 1434.jpg

On the picture: The dome, covering the southern area of the Muradiye Mosque’s congregation room, rests on an octagonal drum. Prism-shaped triangles connect the drum with the walls of the square mihrab area.
The painted decorations of the dome display a Classical Ottoman style; they are called ‘kalem işi’ (= work of the pen/paintbrush), because they are inspired on the geometric or stylised ornamentation used by Ottoman calligraphers to illuminate books.
