Gaziantep 8520

Another 19th century mosque with that fine mixture of black and white stone. It's the Kurtuluş Mosque. As the comment below indicates the mosque started off as a church. "This is the Armenian Cathedral of Aintab (now Gaziantep) known as St. Mary or Surp Astvatsatsin" (the Armenian writing becomes unreadable in ASCII).

As for the link to the old picture: I found I could get there, but first had to navigate to http://www.gomidas.org/images and then had to choose the Asdvadzadzin.jpg picture in a directory, the link would not work straight away.

This is the Armenian Cathedral of Aintab (now Gaziantep) known as St. Mary or Surp Astvatsatsin (Սուրբ Աստվածածին) which was converted to a mosque after the Armenian Genocide in 1920s. For the old picture of this desecrated church click onhttp://www.gomidas.org/images/Asdvadzadzin.jpg.
