Valleys near Goreme 7062

view map

As so often people have lived here. Some dwellings are high up a steep rock wall, and though there are some steps visible I think the inhabitants must have used ropes to climb to their house, here some 10~15 metres up.

The pigeon holes that are visible were exactly that: pigeonholes. I used to think they were cupboards, and maybe they are in some interiors, but when they are some much in the open they were made to give pigeons a place to roost. And after eggs were laid, rob the poor animals and eat their eggs. Still lots of birds inhabit the valleys, to the delight of the buzzards that hover over them.
