Amasya Bimarhane

view map

The hospital / medical school is from 1308 and has been restored. It is now in use as a cultural centre. As always with Selcuk buildings the carvings are fascinating.

On the picture: Close-up of the stone work ornaments of the monumental gate.

Correspondent: J.M.Criel, Antwerpen.

it is not that right to say that BIMARHANE was just a Kuran school. It has a Selcuk madrasah type but it was used as a hospital

and it was the most ancient known mental hospital, where the patients were under medical treatment with water and music...

yes you are right about medrese but this building at the same time is a bimarhane, it means mantal hospital.
