Nurettin İbni Sentimur Türbesi

view map

In short: Sentimur Türbesi, 1313/14

Nurettin İbni Sentimur was a son of the Mongol commander Sentimur, who was governor during the short period that the Ilkhanlı (Mongol khans seated in Iran) took direct control of the region (1308-1335).
The elaborate construction combines stone for the walls and bricks for the roof and vaults. Although the litte door is rather simple, the three windows have been fully decorated with nice stonework. One of them even bears a poem by the famous Persian poet Firdawsi (940-1020).
The tomb had (already) been restored in 1935, but –as this photo shows – time is a demanding master.
