The river has had its sides protected with concrete, which detracts from its charm but is probably much safer. The main bridge is a good one, some bicycle and pedestrian bridges have curious imitation-wood ornamentation. I see this a lot in the country, instead of iron railings.
The Yeşilırmak (= Green River) runs through Turhal. It is the second longest river of Turkey. From its source north-east of Sivas, it flows past Tokat and Amasya, and reaches the Black Sea at Samsun after some 500 km.
