Termessos nature view

view map

Termessos – at 34 kilometres from Antalya – was fiercely independent. They fought off Alexandre the Great in 333 BC and the Romans accepted their independence rather than fight them in a 70 BC treaty. The setting is great, hidden in rugged mountains, and from the theatre the view is very fine. I particularly liked the large graveyards with lots of tombs, many of them toppled over by earthquakes over the ages.

This picture gives an impression of the great country around Termessos. I think it's within the local national park, so hiking may not be as easy as I would want it to be, but it's very inviting.

Tim Spalding from Portland, Maine put a link to this page, he has a very fine site on Termessos, his favorite city in Turkey, including some 50 annotated links and 100 thumbnail pictures.
