Antakya Archaeology Museum Achilles mosaic sept 2019 6194.jpg

Second-third century AD, Antakya. The part shown is the upper right part of a larger panel. It’s the only surviving figure in a larger border, his name is written above him. In missing parts a long spear in his right hand and a shield in the left can be supposed. He is probably moving forward. The usual scene depicted would be Achilles being recognized by Odysseus while hiding amongst the maidens in the palace of Lycomedes, king of Skyros.
