Antakya Archaeological Museum Pillar base with double lion sept 2019 5805.jpg

Neo-Hittite, Assyrian style lions. Basalt, width: 80 cm; length: 110 cm.

Tell Tayinat (Tell Tainat) is located about 25km east to the city of Antakya. The site is about 800 meters to the site of Tell Açana. The site's ancient name was probably Kunulua which was the capital of Neo-Hittite kingdom Patina/Unqi (which were names used by Assyrians). Several orthostats and ornamented columnbases were found, which date to 9th - 7th centuries BC.
