This is one of a set of orthostats, that adorned the Royal Buttress in Carchemish in Gaziantep province. They are from the 8th century BC. I did not have the right (wide angle) lens with me to take optimal pictures. As a result I had to hope I could correct perspectives when at home. I think most pictures are pretty true to the actual situation, though. But if I do return I may improve on some. As for that, I just read that the original site could be visited since 13-7-2019 (I don;'t know if this currently holds true). I'll give it a try next time around.
To the left": Yariri, the ruler, holds Kamani, the future Country-Lord, at the wrist. The ruler holds a sceptre and a sword. The future Country-Lord leans on a sceptre and carries a sword over his shoulder. The text says “This is Kamani and these are his younger brothers. Here I took hum (by) the hand and established him over the temple, though he was a child. This is Yarim’s image.”
