Istanbul Beylerbeyi Mosque Courtyard oct 2019 6729.jpg

view map

I first tried entering from the Bosporus front, through the courtyard, and when I found that closed I doubted if I'd get into that courtyard. Later I found that a glass door from the interior mosque led to the stairs going down into that courtyard.

From there one can see that the mosque has on either side one of two sultan's pavilions, and a connecting space above the entrance part. That was a rather new development, the role of the sultan's visits to the mosque was increasing and so were these pavilions. Inside the mosque that is reflected by the ornate sultan's prayer room on later pictures.

Some pictures have a strong blue tint, I think both the clear sky, the fact much of the courtyard was in the shadow and maybe reflection from the water nearby were the cause, I did not correct on all pictures.
