Nigde museum Göltepe tin mine Early bronze age 3000-2000 BC 0907.jpg

A notice indicates how relevant materials were mined around Göltepe, that would be ground and refined, till by melting tin would be produced that was fashioned into ingot. These could later be molten down with copper, producing an alloy, bronze, that was the raw material for tools, weapons and jewellery in the Bronze Age. This is a replica of the entrance of such a tin mine.
Another notice indicates how in Kestel the tin mining was performed, by the use of fire to heat rock, than crack it under an ore vein by quenching the rock with water. Then breaking the rocks further. The mine had a labyrinthine excavation area of 1,5 kilometres.
