The huge space south of the mosque has been transformed into a sports heaven. I first knew it as a point where cattle was transferred to transport, later it was used to park trucks. Much earlier - in Byzantine times - it was a storage place for water, an open air cistern. It is now called the Çarşamba Çukurbostan Parkı, a "vegetable garden in a hole."
