It is explained that the castle suffered from a French attack in WW I. I do not know if this picture shows the result of that attack or "just" neglect.

French bombing May 26, 1915. Turkey had fought against the Allied Forces on the side of the Axis. Bodrum harbour was suspected of supplying German submarines with petrol. The French undertook three attacks but were unsuccessful. The French battleship Duplex bombarded castle and Turkish quarter, then fled. Many French were taken prisoner.
