Three bronze fragments belonging to one leaf of a Roman veteran infantry soldier’s discharge certificate (diploma). Found at the small Roman city of Laertes, it records the recipient’s name, his city or origin (Cyrrhos in Syria), the name of his regiment, his commanding officer’s name and that of the Governor of Pamphylia, and the date of issue (138 AD). According to Roman laws, the discharge for 25 years of honorable service entitled him the rights of citizenship and to marry a Pamhylian woman.
