This is the Abdioğlu Camii in the heart of town. It dates, according to the notice, to 1258.
Inside the mosque I noticed for the first time a curious construction on a large pole. I think I understood from people I asked about this, that at some point the Ottoman sultan spread a thread of some holy relic to mosques in the region. Once I’d seen it, I saw it in many mosques in the region. I cannot imagine it was, for instance, a hair of Muhamad’s beard, and a thread from his robe is not very probable either. Could some viewer help us understand?
