Bursa Emir Sultan Camii May 2014 7089 panorama.jpg

On the picture: A global view of the congregation hall, which is 15,20 x 15,20 m large.
To the left: the ‘qibla’ wall, with the mihrab’ (prayer niche, which indicates the direction of Mecca) and the ‘minber’ (pulpit where the imam/prayer leader stands to deliver sermons).
To the right: the north side of the prayer hall, with (above the entrance door) the wooden platform were women take place if they want to participate in the common prayer.
The complete interior is executed in 19th century late-Ottoman ‘Turkish Baroque’ style, which was influenced by European Neo-Classicism (and more specifically here by the French ‘Nouvel Empire’ style).

Note: The term ‘Turkish Baroque’ is a general one; if necessary, more specific terms can be used: ‘Barok’ (= Neo-Baroque), ‘Rokoko’ (= Neo-Rococo) or ‘Ampir’ (= ‘Nouvel Empire’).
