The fountain of the acropolis is situated at the spot where water first enters the city. It flowed through an open canal towards the Greek Gate downhill. The fountain has a U-shaope with two stories, a statue of Kestors, a river god, is situated in the central niche on the second story. Granite and marble columns have Corinthian capitals, and friezes are adonred with theatre masks, satyrs and menads and a sea creature blowing a horn.
