view map

These pictures I took walking from the south west-side of the Seyhan river (near the Otobüs Işletmeleri), towards the Taş Köprü (Stone Bridge, dating back to Roman times (oldest parts dating to the time of Hadrian 117-138 AD) and recently renovated, still in use as a pedestrian crossing and small scale market place), later crossing it after having taken some pictures of the general lay-out, with the Hilton hotel at the eastern side and the Central Mosque to the north on the west side.

I was told this is a sugar beet cut in half. Could some viewer explain what's its use?

Yes, it is sugar beet. Main use is sugar extraction of course. But -at least in my childhood (60s)- it is cooked in the oven or in hot ashes. I like it very much. A few beets was free for everybody in those years; either farmers or transporters used to give a few to everybody asks.
