In June 2008 I finally entered Istanbul University, not for study purposes, but just to see the buildings and garden. What I had not expected was that from the back of the area one has a marvelous view of the Süleymaniye Mosque. It was under restoration, I tried to keep out scaffolding as much as possible. These shots by necessity being taken from one vantage point do not show the whole complex, but they give some detailed views of the dome-structure of the mosque itself and some parts of the külliye, the ensemble of buildings that always surrounded a big mosque, like some tombs, soup kitchen, a hospital, a Koran school.
