Built for the Mongol ruler Oeldjaitoe this medrese stands in the heart of town on a square that also houses the Lala Mustafa Paşa Camii, see in the general Erzurum gallery. Lions, eagles, a tree of life adorn the wonderful entrance. The most recent Lonely Planet guide had me non-plussed as it indicated there was a ethnographic museum nearby. Though the medrese was closed in my mind the museum used to be inside it.
