I photograph very often hand-held without lens hood to lower the weight and to better balance the camera/lens combo. That help me to photographs for a longer time than with the hood attached. About sunlight reflection, I find that in the digital era you can easily adjust the lower contrast during the postprocess of the pictures. Of course, you must be more careful of your front lens ...

Nice to have someone take actionshots of the photographers too. B.t.w. do you always use your lens without the hood, specially in Egypt there can be stong sunlight and it ads some protection too.
