Azores - October 2011

In this gallery you may see a small selection of the birds that I have seen during a 15-days long bird trip to the Azores. During the trip, my third on the archipelago, I visited Terceira, Flores and Corvo islands. It has been mainly a "twitching" trip, not a photographic one. Highlights of the trip have been: a male Wood Duck on Flores, at least a true pair of American Black Duck on Flores, one Fea's Petrel between Corvo and Flores, one dark morph Herald Petrel between Corvo and Flores, hundreds of Great Shearwaters, one Pied-billed Grebe on Terceira, a magnifecent, stunning adult White-tailed Tropicbird every noon on Flores, an American White Egret on Corvo, an immature Yellow-crowned Night Heron on Corvo, a Snowy Egret on Flores, one juv Marsh Hawk on Flores, various american waders on Terceira (American Golden Plover, Semipalmated Plover, Semipalmated Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, Hudsonian Whimbrel) and Flores (Upland Sandpiper, Spotted Sandpiper, White-rumped Sandpiper, Hudsonian Whimbrel), one immature Ring-billed Gull on Flores, one Roseate Tern on Terceira, one Common Nighthawk on Flores, one Red-eyed Vireo on Corvo, one Swainson's Thrush on Flores and another one on Corvo, one Tennessee Warbler on Corvo, one Blue-winged Warbler on Corvo, one Yellow Warbler on Corvo and a Bobolink on Flores.
