Côte de la Montagne connects Upper and Lower Towns - Lower Town (Basse-Ville) and the St. Lawrence River are seen here.
Lower Town is at the foot of Cape Diamant. Lower Town is the original French settlement in North America - established by the explorer Champlain in 1608. Champlain later abandoned this site and relocated to the Upper Town which was more defendable.
