Judy and Richard each pattern-dyeing a bag at a Kyo-yuzen Workshop at Marumasu-Nishimuraya in Kyoto

Judy's pattern-dyed bag is very attractive - not so much for Richard's bag. :-)
Kyo-Yuzen is a technique of painting directly onto cloth. It was invented at the end of the 17th century. The painted colors used in this technique are vivid and distinctive. The full Kyo-yuzen technique could involve up to 26 stages. What we did here is a variation of the technique in which we used stencils to paint objects on a bag. Even this abbreviated technique creates wonderful products when done by professional artists whose products are for sale here.
