Elvis' mansion at Graceland is big but quite modest compared to the houses of many present-day celebrities. The neighborhood surrounding Graceland also is modest. The decor of the mansion is a bit "in your face" with lots of reds and bold colors.
Graceland is one of the top three visited private homes in the United States. (The White House is another.)
The mansion at Graceland was built in 1940 and was the home of Elvis Presley and his family starting in 1957. Elvis' parents lived there. Whenever Elvis moved he took his parents with him and provided for them even before he became famous. Elvis died at Graceland in 1977. He is buried there along with his parents and grandparents. There is also a memorial gravestone for Presley's stillborn twin brother there. Graceland was opened to the public in the 1980's.
