B&W from color,please help

these are from my regular color digital shots and i just pushed abuuton in iphoto, i have a mac... and these are them... they dont look so strikiin gas b and w's usually do.... any ideas... is it the same to convert a color shot to b&w as is is to shoot in b&w digitally to begin with... does anyone have a mac and iphoto... my camrea now is the impossible to make focus, really missing a slr, nikon 8800....... but i complain enouhg..... any ideas any experiences?????? thanks, don

D it is a big challenge to capture a good b/w with digital color. the fact is when you record a fotograph in color, the range of tones will not be there when you convert. yes, you can go in and adjust contrast which will help but it still will not achieve the same depth, 3-D quality or range of tones that b/w film is capable of capturing. if you can get your hands on a copy of Photoshop, then you can go in and create layer masks thereby adjusting contrast in local areas instead of for the entire foto. This will greatly help you separate tones and create a better looking contrast. the other issue that you face with digital is that converting to b/w from color usually gives you a 'foggy' foto. It is rarely ever crystal clear like b/w film. sure there are exceptions but you will see this fog more times than not. Bottom line you can convert color to b/w but you'll most likely need PS in order to get the full potential from the digital file. Hope that helps a little. Bryan

You need to adjust the saturation. I also don't use I Photo, I use photoshop. But adjust the saturation on MASTER until they are B & W.

I have a mac but don't use I photo for post, I use photo shop. The two landscapes don't look bad, but the other two are flat. You need to add some contrast. Do you have photoshop. I use i photo only to get them on my desktop.
