Okay, I'll tell you the story ... Six years later, I return to the San Diego Seaport and recognize the Ben & Jerry's shop with the little hot dog spot right nearby and the lovely umbrella'd seating area ... This was the scene of "the attack" ... Memories are misty, but here's how I tell it ... My words come back to me, "Okay Kate, if you're going to feed the little birds (not even gulls, mind you), break your bun into little pieces and throw it away from us ..." Her first toss was surprisingly lame for the child with the golden arm and the 13-year-old panicks as the first birds respond too close to her for her comfort, so she throws the entire bun at her feet and is swarmed by attack birdies!!! Hilarity ensued and six years later I'm still telling the story ...
