This P-38 later flew in the Honduran Air Force until being traded to Bob Bean of Blythe, CA in 1960. Then sold to Ed Maloney's Air Museum in Ontario, CA. Next it went to ex- WWII P-38 pilot Larry Blumer who had it flying again in the late 60s, painted as his old "Scrap Iron IV". Going through other warbird notables like Don Hull and Les Friend, the 38 then ended up with airline pilot John Deahl of Denver, CO in 1977. Funny thing is that Wardell had a partner in these P-38s in the late 40s. His name was Dick Martin. He also maintained the plane for Deahl in the 70s. 30 years after selling it in the first place. Deahl kept it until April 4, 1981 when he crashed fatally on take- off from Salt Lake City, UT. Wreck has since been dispersed around to other owners.
