Nanoreef - Fish & Livestock ~ Joys and Tribulations ~ Part 1

Our first fish additions

Dec 22nd, 2006: We added a pair of False Percula [Oscellaris] Clowns and three Green Chromis. (Our LFS would only sell the Chromis' in groups of 3) The next morning Frank decided to scrub the rock, we then did a water change of about 5 gals. All the fish seemed to be doing fine as can be seen in the group picture on that day.

About 4 PM, I added some two part additive the LFS had recommended as a buffer. What I didn't read on the label was the fact that Part B can crystallize, and it did. When it was added, chunks of stuff went into the tank which I couldn't retrieve. The fish thought they were being fed, so they grabbed at it. By 6 PM all were stressed, breathing heavily, and some seemed to be gasping for breath at the water line. We lost two Chromis' that night, and the remaining Chromis and a Clown the next night, Christmas Eve. On the 26th we added another False Percula from a different LFS...both are doing great and have become the goodwill ambassadors of our reef!
