It began on Valentine's Day. Avery called to say he was awakened by the sound of heavy equipment and barking dogs - and was told the house and barn were coming down. He called the newspaper asking me to come out - and then continued to make calls in a frantic search for help.
The demolition crew abandoned plans to begin tearing down the house and gave him a day to work things out.
