Uncle Ronnie January 22

U is for Uncle Ronnie.

This is an old family photo, part of a long-time on-going project I've undertaken to restore and then archive family photos, some dating back to the early 1900s. This shot would have been taken on my grandfather's farm in Ohio, probably prior to World War II.
I chose this as my PaD because the restoration of it went very well .. but more so because I was struck by the similarity between the way he is dressed and the way Thomas/Jose/Avery also dresses.

A version of this photo in sepia is here:

What a great feel these pictures give. I personally think that Uncle Ronnie wanted to portray a serious image, which is exactly what he did. Great job Donna.

Yes, why did they never smile? Was it because they had to be still for so much longer and to some extent times were much more formal? Here in the UK, 26 hours of movie film has just been discovered and restored showing ordinary people at work, play and so on from about 1900. Despite the tough life that people endured then, many people were happy in front of the camera partly because it was such a novelty.
I too am restoring old family photos and can appreciate how pleased you must be with this result.

You did a fine job with the restoration on this photograph. You are correct, there is a similiarity in how they dressed. I love old pictures. I noted that most people in old photographs never smile.
