"no trees"

One version of the story of the naming of the plain goes that Nullarbor is Latin - "nullus arbor" - no trees. (The other version is that it is an Aboriginal name. I don't know which is correct.)

That's no trees for a long, long way. The Nullarbor Plain is 750 km long by about 200 km wide.
