Our journey was primarily a tour of forested areas.
But of course, Borneo isn't all forest by a large margin.
In the state of Sabah alone, there is c. 14,000 square kilometres (1.4 million ha) of Oil Palm plantation - quite literally, we drove for hours and hours through it.
In the interest of balance, here's some land-use stats for the state of Sabah, which I've extracted from reliable sources so they should be close to accurate:
* forest reserved for conservation - 13.3%
* forest reserved for logging - 32.3%
* Oil Palm plantation - 19.0%
* other - 35.4%.
