We entered Borneo (and departed from it) through Kota Kinabalu, capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah.

I'm not a city person, but I warmed to KK (as it is known) for its cosmopolitan, laid-back atmosphere and the setting of the CBD between a forested ridge and the ocean with forested islands offshore.
