This scene on the plateau of the Newcastle Range is in the ‘backblocks’ of 315 square kilometre nature refuge.
The refuge is a former cattle station now set aside for conservation and managed by the traditional (i.e. Aboriginal) owners.
This part of the refuge is effectively inacessible other than by helicopter – and management doesn’t own a helicopter; it would be a hot and rugged hike across many kilometres of trackless country to reach it on foot.
One wonders when a human last had a close-up view of this seasonal stream and rock pools.
