Copperfield Gorge

These rocks are basalt formed from lava that flowed about 100 km from a volcano to the south-east.
There are three overlying lava flows at Copperfield Gorge (I read). Only the middle of these has been aged – the eruption occurred just over a quarter of a million years ago.

Interesting history about Copperfield Gorge. That must have been a tremendously large volcanic explosion to send lava 100km!
