I was born in Miami Beach 1942. My father was with the beach police when Al Capone lived on the island. As a small child we lived in Coral Gables and then 16th street in Hialeah (Red Road). Around 1945 my parents purchased acres of land on Peterpike Road off of HWY 27 (close to several dairies...White Belt and others). Our house was being built when the 1947 hurricane hit. I remember all the houses out there were in about two feet of floor water. Had to use a boat to get out. The canal had flooded; lots of dead animals and snakes. Had to use dump trucks to get to Hialeah. The airport and Miami Springs were also flooded. I went to Miami Springs Elementary, Hialeah Elementary and then graduated from Hialeah High in 1960. My name was Sandra King, my brother was Dennis King. My mother, Jean King was later part owner of Town & Glades Realty in Hialeah. My father Wm. E. (Bud) King was at times a policeman in Hialeah. I vaguely remember Mrs. Goodlett-Taylor (I think her first husband was on the City Council). Please respond to sandra.okerlund@gmail.com

Hi Mary Ann,
I grew up in the 'Springs on Oakwood and East Dr. I am trying to find out the owners name that ran Miami Springs Texaco on 36St, his first name was Bill and his mechanics name was Jimmy. This would have been late 60's early 70's.
and they both raced 266 and 280 hydroplanes. I am trying to run down the one called "Black Magic" and find out what happened to these two guys.
Thank you
