1960, 1968 or 1969 - Immaculate Conception students read to long-time Mayor of Hialeah Henry Milander (see comments for names)

125 W. 45th Street, Hialeah, Florida

Okay, the date on the photo was 1960 when I got it (source unknown) when I posted it on this site in August 2005, but now we have a comment stating that it was 1968 or 1969 with names of the students.

Mayor Henry Milander passed away while in office in 1974.

Thanks for all that interesting information, Larry, you've got a great memory. I'll add the Lake Bambi to other places on the site now that you've given me the name.

I beleive that's Mother Franchesca next to the Mayor. I went to Immaculate Conception kindergarden through fourth grade. Mrs Ronstrum, in K Sister Regina 1st,
Mrs Otto 2nd. Sister Anita 3rd and a really old mean and angry teacher by the name of Mrs McCleary in 4th. Sister Reginious was the choer teacher and Sister Pauline tought CCD on Sat. I remember when the raised the bell into the tower. They brought all the students out to the parking lot to watch. At lunch there were two kids that went to each class and you could buy Wise Chips or a box of stick pretizels for a nickle. They had milk too in a crate you could buy for a nickle too. On thursdays they would sell hot dog lunchs in the building accross the street where mass was said when the church was being built. The cub scouts also had their Blue and Gold banquet there. Haven't thought about that in a long time. I left in 1964 and came back in 1965 but then went to Meadowlane Elem. The name of the Big Lake next to Zares was Lake Bambi. Larry Thompson

It is funny that in doing my CCD at Immaculate Conception (did communion oin 1989) the school had not changed one bit from the way it looked back in the 50's and 60's

Went to ISC with my cousin Carla Greenwell while Blessed Trinity School in Miami Springs was being built. Then we went on to Notre Dame Academy. Graduated from NDA in 1964. Thank's for all the memories. Sure wish I could get i n contact with some fellow 64 yr. olds.....Joan Huber Caffarelli (Wesley Chapel, Fl.)
