I was assigned to the Coast Guard Recruiting Office in Room 111 at the east end of the bottom floor. Next to us was the Air Force Recruiting Office, the Marine Corps Recruiting Office and the Army Recruiting Office on the first floor. The Navy Recruiting Office was also on the first floor but on the west side of the building lobby.
The snack bar was located on the second floor and was attended by a blind man whose name I can't remember despite patronizing the snack bar at least once a day. Other federal agencies occupied the other floors. The government agencies had a nice parking lot with assigned spaces for their government cars on the north side of the building. There was a Ramada Inn or Sheraton to the north of us in the next block. General Telephone & Telegraph (GT&E) was in the building to the south of us across Zack Street and it was chock full of ladies who worked there as telephone operators.
At the time this Federal Building was one of the newest buildings in downtown Tampa and it was very attractive and the air-conditioning was great. Having transferred there from a Coast Guard Station, where I lived and worked, that was built in 1938 this building was luxurious.
