1968 - a Dade County Port Authority new Jetport decal promoting the new airport in the Everglades

Miami, Florida

Thank you to Jen Hammer Cardenas for contributing this great image of a Dade County Port Authority patch with the Jetport decal on top of a Miccosukee Indian garment. Fortunately environmental groups pressured the federal government to stop the Jetport area being developed into a full-blown airport. The county was forced to leave it as a training airport for area airlines and aviation companies training pilots. And fortunately, over the decades, the great advances and improvements in aircraft flight simulators greatly reduced the use of actual aircraft being used for pilot training.
