1970 - the Hillsborough River just south of the Kennedy Boulevard bridge from the new Manger Inn

Tampa, Florida

There is a large Seminole Furniture building in the upper left, a Denny's on the river and the University of Tampa and it's minarets in the background. The river is full of water hyacinths as a Coast Guard 30-foot utility boat from MIO Tampa (Marine Inspection Office Tampa) motors south in the river towards the bay. This photo was taken from the relatively new Manger Inn that was Tampa's newest downtown hotel at the time as it opened in 1969 as I recall. Our Coast Guard recruiting office had to put applicants and enlistees up in a hotel almost every week and we previously put them up in the old Hillsborough Hotel. I went to the Manger and negotiated the same room rate for our applicants and enlistees and they were much happier with the accommodations.
