1954 - Atlantic gas station in the northeast corner of LeJeune Road and South Dixie Highway (US 1)

Miami, Florida

Thank you to Larry Martin for contributing this great old image. Larry says there were many intersections back then with gas stations on all four corners. At LeJeune and South Dixie Highway there was an Atlantic station in the northeast corner, a Shell station in the northwest corner, an Amoco on the southeast corner and a Texaco on the southwest corner. Larry also relates that the Atlantic station, where this photo was taken from, has undergone many changes but is still there on this island of land bounded by US 1, Grand Avenue/Blue Rd. and LeJeune Road as a Mobil station now.

lmartin Larry Martin, I am a Miami native, born and raised, and I also collect photos of vintage gas stations as a hobby. Would it be alright with you for me to download, save, and printout the photos you uploaded of these great gas stations? It would be strictly for personal use only. Please let me know, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you! -James Vernon

Yes that is Poe's just past the Shell. As you can see there was not much else around here in 1954. I don't even think the Golden Nugget was there next to Poe's yet. How things have changed.

From this angle it is recognizable. On the right after the gas station one can see the Poe's Rentals building.
