It took years for the junior college to get all the students into new classrooms from the old barracks buildings.

Hi Don: This building was actually a classroom, used by NARTU (Naval Air Rserve Training Unit) back in the day. On the right was Sick Bay. Click on 'next' and see the sick bay and Ad Building. The barracks were the three simular buildings to the north in this photo. To the left rear was Ship's Service and the large hangar, that I think the College converted to a gymnasium? I spent an interesting night in that hangar during the '51 hurricane , sleeping on the hose bed of a fire truck and the hangar door blew in! The Hurricane Hunters (VP-23) had their PB4Y2's sitting on the ramp, engines running, headed into the wind, the eye passed directly overhead, the wind reversed and blew the control surfaces off the aircraft! Parts of the movie, "Slattery's Hurricane" with Richard Widmark and Linda Darnell were filmed right there. That was a long time ago----
