Miami International Airport

This is particularly interesting because National Airlines leased Concourse 3 (renamed to Concourse F in the mid 70's) on a long-term lease for many years and TWA had a long-term lease on Concourse 2 (renamed to Concourse G) that expired in 1986 when the airport took back that concourse and turned it into common-use gates assigned by the Gate Control section of the Aviation Department.

My Dad worked for TWA in Miami for many years, and I spent many a day hanging around the gates with him, cleaning Connies, crawling up the nose cargo compartment and tossing out bags and mail, and generally being a young pest to those who were trying to turn the aircraft around on time. If I recall correctly, the only time aircraft were parked in the position shown was if the aircraft had broken down (a frequent occurance in those days), or some other unusual occurance caused more than one aircraft to be on the ground at the same time. I believe it was because the Captians side of the cockpit would get to hot to touch, and since Captians were gods in those days, what he wanted was done. Nobody paid much attention to copilots back then.
