According to a neighbor...one of the previous residents of the house had a kid that got into his mom's car, put it in reverse, destroyed the brick terraced planters by running over them, then put it into drive and hit the brick post that used to support this corner of the house. Now...the porte cochiere(aka: carport) sags as the steel support is shorter than necessary to support the overhang. This house is full of neglected maintenance issues and things I gotta fix like this.
By the way, a Porte Cochiere is basically just a roof over a parking area that is connected to the house. A lot of older midtown Memphis homes have porte cochieres. I like to use the term. It baffles people.
I like to baffle people with trivial knowledge of little known construction terms.
Damn I gotta get next door neighbors Mark and Rodney to put a new coat of paint on their abode!
