Supertankers are huge floating storage containers capable of carrying
millions of barrels of crude oil. They draw (the amount of ship below the water)
as much as 85 feet of water and reach lengths of 1,800 feet. A ship such
as this moving through the water at sea speed (20+ knots) can take 5 to 7 miles
to come to a stop. The shuttle tanker alongside will carry about 1/3 of the
crude oil into port.
