New Ferries

This week our old ferry, the Powell River Queen, was replaced with two new ferries.
During the busy hours both ferries shuttle back and forth between Quadra and Campbell River.
The old ferry had a capacity of 59 standard length vehicles. The new ones have a capacity
of 47, but since there are two running simultaneously, they can convey 94 vehicles per hour.
This should make a noticeable difference to the lengthy wait times we have been having
most days, and especially in the tourist season.

These new hybrid ferries have battery powered electric motors, but the charging infrastructure
has not been installed yet. Until then they will run on fossil fuel.

The old ferry had better foot passenger decks and was, in my opinion, a very handsome vessel.
However, all things considered, this is a step forward for Quadra.

There are new ferries serving Whidbey too. Our new ferries are smaller than the old but they can maintain scheduled sailings on busy days because they are fast enough to make up for leaving a little late.

A fine shot, but with very different light as you noted. The green aspect sounds promising, and two instead of one makes for better service I guess.

Good news that you're getting an improved and hopefully greener service.
That's a great viewpoint to capture their comings and goings. V

Looks very modern and sleek, great that they will cut your wait times. I had a chuckle regarding the lack of charging infrastructure, in the rush to go "green" it seems to be a similar story in many places.

Good that you have increased capacity and thus less wait time. Good also they will run on electric motors.

it looks a step up, with higher sides, and once running electric will be a greener option...an excellent shot capturing the locale an classic coastal conditions..

Glad to see they're moving in the (hopefully) greener direction.

Sounds like the new ferries will be an improvement, even if not as handsome as the old one.
