Now, For Something Completely Different

Austin, TX

Mike was pretty close. It turns out it is made from the wingtip tank from a Lockheed Constellation. Here is a link to a photo of one in use on an old Trans Canada Airlines plane. Please Click Here.

What an amazing machine,, looks like it could have flown from Germany to Briton at one time and so perfectly captured.
Mike Stobbs22-Apr-2012 22:15
I would say it's a drop tank from a P51 or P38 and my have a early flat head Ford in it. By the "51" on the side I bet it's a P51 tank. Top speed in the day would have been around 140mph....cool find and image Dan...braVo...Mike

Looks like it could be a salt flats car, Dan. Whatever it is, its one cool machine.

it is certainly shiny, and aerodynamically designed...looks like a rocket on wheels..
