Thank you, for all the nice comments on my photos. In answer to your question about highlighting the Blue Jay: The bird and the branch it was on, was selected using the lasso tool in photoshop and using a 20 pixel soft edge and then I selected "inverse" selection and performed a Guassian Blurr on the background.
With regard to dragonflies and "Macro," I'm not sure if macro really applies since I am normally 15 to 30 feet from the insect. For these photos, I was using a Nikon 990 (3.2 megapixel camera) zoomed for the 3x telephoto lens, but fitted to a 20-60X zoom eyepiece and Leica APO spotting scope. With all the zoom you can get upwards of a 1000mm lens. The camera is operated in the macro mode and exposures, range from 1/30 to 1/125 sec. A good tripod and cable release is need to reduce movement... keeping the subject still is, as always, a matter of luck. This technique is known as digiscoping.
